94 days....
This is Moo.
Short for Moohammed Ali. He's the 4H project of our friend Jake. He's been a resident here at Torok Farm & Gardens since late September. We've enjoyed watching both Jake and Moo grow (respectively) over these last 6 months. Jake has worked hard training Moo to walk and set up for his showmanship class. Moo is typically stubborn, and hasn't made it all easy for Jake. It's been fun to watch them together as they practice for that all important Judging Day. Jake has been a responsible boarder: keeping his tack organized, the pen clean, and just generally pleasant to have around. I guess what I'm saying is that, we'll miss both of them when they go. Only 94 days til the OC Fair!
Hopefully, Moo will win not just his class, but Grand Champion Market Steer! But even more important, I hope Jake wins!
Here's a few pics of other Market Steers raised here at Torok Farm & Gardens...

3 More Days!
March 27th, 2013
Over a month ago, one of my three buff orpington hens went broody! She became like a monster, growling at anyone or anything that came near her nesting box. After trying to break her of her broodiness, I was encouraged by a friend to set some eggs under her so that she could fulfill her sense of duty! Since we do not currently own a rooster, I scoured ebay for just the right eggs. After a few days of bidding, I had two different breeds headed our way. Blue Orpingtons from Washington, and Americaunas from Florida. The eggs arrived and Miss Merryweather is content with her clutch.
